Basic plot - Part three of the Buffy and Final Destination crossover. Buffy and Alex realise that they are attracted to each other, and things begin to get seriously intense when it hits them that one of them could die soon.
Cordelia stared into the depths of the mirror but all she could see was Willow’s reflection, she was sat on the bed with Xander, crying. Cordy was scared, Willow had almost died…died, it was a horrible thought. She hated it when people died, it happened all the time, but it was still horrible. Really horrible!
Xander hugged Willow tighter, he’d never seen her like this, but then again she’d never come that close to dying. “Will, it’s okay…you’re safe now, I promise.” He whispered to her, she just sniffed. “Stop crying…please…you’ll make me cry.”
Willow looked up at her best friend; he looked so worried. “I don’t want you to cry too.” She laughed softly. “I’ve seen you cry…it’s not pretty.”
“I agree.” Cordy said turning to face them. “ I remember that time he cried in the fifth grade…over that teddy bear…not good at all!” She giggled then got up and headed for the door. “Well I’m going for a walk, see you guys later.”
“Yeah…” Willow lay her head down on the bed. “I’m gonna try and get some sleep, okay.”
“Okay, I’ll be as quiet as a mouse.” Xander smiled and pushed a strand of hair off her face, then went over and sat on the sofa.

Buffy burst into her hotel room, Alex right behind her. “Cordy!” She screamed. Xander turned and looked at her a little dazed, Willow was asleep on one of the beds. “Where’s Cordy?” She asked breathlessly.
“She went for a walk.” Xander frowned at Buffy. “Why?”
“Where did she go?” Alex asked quickly.
“Oh…it’s vision boy.” Xander muttered.
Buffy slapped his arm. “Xander now isn’t the time for petty jealously, okay! Where did she go to?”
He frowned again. “I don’t know, she just said she was going for a walk. What’s going on? Why do you want her?”
“I’ll tell you later.” She whispered then turned to Alex. “Where would you want to walk around here?” She touched his arm gently and smiled. “Anywhere in particular?”
Alex shook his head. “The only place I can think of would be the park.”
“To the park we go then.” Buffy declared then marched back out of the door. “Lets go!”
“Buffy?” Xander butted in quickly.
She turned and glared and him. “Xander, I don’t have time!” She said sourly.
“I just hope you know what you’re doing…” He whispered.
She gave him an evil look. “Of course I know what I’m doing…I deal with death all the time.”
“That’s not what I meant.”

Cordy strolled down one of the paths in the park, it was really quiet, but really nice. She stopped a moment and looked down at a little stream running along side the path, it looked so beautiful as it glistened in the moonlight. She smiled and sat down on a bench beside it, tall trees towered above her head, she watched as a green leaf floated down and landed beside her on the bench. Picking it up, she looked up to the sky.
An owl hoot broke the long silence, Cordy glanced around for it, but she couldn’t see it anywhere. A snapping branch caught her attention she turned and saw Buffy and Alex running towards her. “Buffy?”
“Cordy!” Buffy screamed then hugged her so tightly she couldn’t breathe. “I’m so glad we found you.”
“Why? What’s going on?” She frowned then got to her feet. “Is someone else dead?”
“Not yet.” Alex muttered, and then grabbed hold of Buffy’s arm. “We’d better get back to your hotel, don’t ya think?”
Buffy nodded then dragged Cordy back the way she’d come. “With any luck we should get back safely.”
“Safely?” Cordy wrenched her arm away. “Tell me what’s going on.” Buffy just looked to the floor. “Now!”
“You’re next!” Buffy said quickly.
“Next for what?”
“Next to die.” Alex replied. “So let’s get back.”

Buffy stared across the room and to Alex, who was lying on the sofa trying to sleep, it wasn’t really easy, she couldn’t sleep either after the day’s events. She sat up on her bed and smiled at him. “Hi.” She whispered.
“Hi, can’t sleep?” He asked softly.
“Nope, I take it you can’t either.” Buffy ran her hands through her hair then threw the covers off herself. “It’s so hot.”
Alex raised his eyebrows. “Yeah, I know.” He agreed then leant across the table in front of him and turned on a lamp. “Come here a minute.”
She smiled brightly and climbed out of the bed, then walked past Willow’s bed and settled herself beside Alex. “What’s up?”
“It’s just I keep thinking…if we’re not doing anything, someone else could die…and if-”
“Shhh, don’t worry about it tonight.” She interrupted him and stared rubbing his shoulders. “Just relax…close your eyes…”
He closed his eyes slowly. “I’m glad I met you, Buffy…I feel like I could tell you anything, anything in the world and whatever it was you wouldn’t think I was crazy.”
“You’re definitely not crazy, believe me.” She assured him.
“Are you sure? Carter thinks I am.” He stood up and looked out of the window, it was raining really hard outside. “He could be right.”
Buffy quickly stood up and put her hand on his shoulder then turned him to face her. “Alex, you have to listen to me. Carter doesn’t know what he’s talking about, he’s a jerk, and if you start listening to him…well, you’ll be a jerk too, okay.” She grinned at him. “The Alex that I’ve got to know isn’t crazy, he’s brave, clever, cares about other people…and I like him a lot.”
Alex smiled ever so softly. “You really mean that?”
“I really mean that, with all my heart.” She whispered, and she did really mean it, every minute she spent with Alex she grew to like him even more. “You’re amazing.”
“So are you.” He said gently, then leant closer and kissed her tenderly on the lips.
Buffy closed her eyes and drifted away with the moment, it was nice. No…it was real nice! Alex moved away from her, she took a breath then smiled at him softly. “I’ve been waiting for you to do that all day.”
“Really?” He asked as he tucked a stray strand of her blonde hair behind her ear. “’Cause I’ve been wanting to do that all day.”
“I’m glad you have.” She whispered softly. “Now we don’t have to suffer anymore.”
“Suffer?”
Buffy smiled. “Yeah…suffer. It was killing me not being able to touch you…I feel like I’ve known you forever…”
“I know…I’m scared.” He admitted quietly.
“Scared of what? Death?” She asked and quickly kissed him softly.
Alex kissed her back, then whispered. “No, I’m…scared of…” Trailing off he kissed her again.
“What?” Buffy asked breathlessly, and stared fiddling with the top button of his shirt. “Alex, what are you scared of?”
“I’m scared of losing you…” He frowned, and then looked her in the eyes. “Scared that I won’t get the chance to…to love you.”
She suddenly felt scared too, what if one of them died? She wouldn’t have Alex any longer; she’d be alone again. “You won’t lose me Alex, I swear…you can come home with me…we can…” She felt a hot tear slip down her cheek; Alex wiped it away. “I can’t lose you. I need you.”
Alex didn’t answer; instead he kissed her again passionately, and she held him tightly.

Xander ran down the corridor towards the girl’s room, he reached the door and burst inside; Willow and Cordy were still asleep. He glanced around then noticed Buffy; she was lying on the sofa making out with Alex. Clearing his throat loudly Xander slammed the door behind him, Cordy leaped a mile off the bed, she was obviously almost awake. Buffy and Alex turned and stared at him.
“Don’t you know how to knock?” Buffy growled and sat up. “Someone could have been naked!”
Xander raised an eyebrow. “If I’d come in ten minutes later someone probably would have been.” He stated.
Buffy glanced down at herself, and then pulled up one of the straps of her dress. She shot Xander another one of her evil looks. As Alex whispered something to her, her frown turned into a mischievous grin. “Xander, we’re borrowing your room!” She said quickly and leapt up from the sofa.
Xander stared at them both. “What? No way!”
Buffy moved closer to him and gave him the puppy dog eyes. “Please…Xand.”
He glanced to the floor. “I’m worried about you, Buff.”
“Please, I’ll do anything.” She whispered seductively. “And I mean anything.”
Xander sat on the edge of Cordy’s bed. “Whatever.” He muttered.
“Thanks.” Buffy grinned and grabbed Alex’s hand, and then they ran out of the door.
Cordy leaned on Xander’s shoulder. “What was all that about?”
* * *
Buffy opened the door to Xander’s room, and quickly shut it again as soon as they were inside. She looked at Alex and bit her bottom lip. “So, here we are.”
“Yeah.” Alex said quietly and traced his hand across her face. “I can’t stop touching you…it’s like you’re not real.”
“Oh, I’m real alright.” She assured him just before she kissed him. “Very real.”
He studied her face carefully. “One of us will die, Buffy.”
“No…no, we’re not going to die…we can stop it…we know who’s going to be next…we’ll never die.” She whispered. “We’ll be together…forever…and-”
“Buffy, listen-”
“We’re not going to die!” She screamed, only to break down into tears straight away. “Alex, I’m so scared.”
He led her to sit on the bed then hugged her gently. “I know, I know, it is scary.”
“Why are you suddenly the sensible one?” She asked with a sob.
“We switched.” He smiled. “Plus it gives me a chance to show you how considerate I am.” Buffy shuddered, so Alex held her tightly and kissed her forehead. “I’m gonna have to go home.”
“What are you gonna tell your mom?”
“That I spent the night making out with some girl from out of town in her hotel room!” He laughed. “I’m not sure, but I’ll think of something.”
“Better make it something good!”
“Yeah.” He got up of the bed and smiled at her. “Call me later okay.”
She nodded. “I will.”

Alex opened the door to his house and stepped into the hallway, immediately his mom was there. “Honey, where have you been? We’ve been worried.” She cried and grabbed him tightly.
“Umm, mom…can I breathe please?” Alex forced himself from his mom’s grasp. “I spent the night at a friends.”
“Which friend?” She asked quickly.
Alex tried to make a dash for the stairs. “Does it matter?”
“Alex, your father and I are worried about you, of course it matters.” She gave him a smile. “Which friend?”
“Okay, I didn’t stay at a friends…I spent the night…” He trailed off and glanced around the room for an idea of what to say.
“Yes?”
“I spent the night…with a girl.” He admitted timidly. “She’s from out of town.”
His mom looked shocked. “Oh…”
“You wanted the truth mom.” He answered then started up the stairs, he had to get away before his mom said something else to him.
“Did you sleep with her?” Something exactly like that.

Buffy folded her arms in front of her, it felt uncomfortable, she put her hands in her pockets, that wasn’t right either, she sat down on the sofa and placed her hands on her knees. “Sorry, I’m a bit tense.”
“Sensing that.” Cordy whispered. “So, come on. Tell me all, what have you been up to with Alex? There has to be a few juicy details.”
“Not really.” Buffy frowned.
“What?! Not really?! You went – no, ran – into Xander’s room alone, the two of you! You have to have done something worth hearing.” Cordy slumped back on the bed and sighed. “I would have.”
“Bet you would.” Running a hand through her hair Buffy sighed deeply. “I wanted to…it’s just…”
“Just what? Is he a bad kisser or something?”
Buffy’s eyes widened. “Oh, no! Definitely not!” She giggled. “He makes me tingle all over, its pretty amazing.”
Cordy just grinned at her, eyes lit up like fire. “Yeah well, if his kisses make you tingle…just imagine how you’ll feel if he-”
“Cordy!” Buffy quickly interrupted. “Shhh…Willow’s asleep, you know she likes Alex. We don’t want her to wake hearing us talking about me and him…” She trailed off.
“Having sex?” Cordy finished knowingly.
Buffy dived at her and covered Cordy’s mouth with her hand. “Shut up!” Removing her hand again Buffy stood over her and frowned. “Willow’s my best friend, I don’t want to hurt her...if she knew…” She sighed. “She’d hate me!”
Cordy threw a glance to Willow’s sleeping form. “You think? ‘Cause I don’t think she could!”
Buffy smiled shyly. “I feel bad about all this but I can’t help how I feel, I wish I-”
“No you don’t wish you didn’t like Alex, you know that, I know that, Willow probably knows it!” Cordy corrected her. “You have to tell her what’s going on, or it’s going to hurt her-” She stopped talking as Xander walked into the room.
He glared at them curiously. “Ooh, I just walked in on secret telling, didn’t I?”
Buffy cleared her throat and reached for the phone.
Xander rolled his eyes and headed back out of the door. “I know when I’m not wanted.”
Cordy waited until Xander shut the door then turned to Buffy attentively. “Are you gonna call Alex? Tell him how much you want him? Arrange to meet so you can-”
“Enough already!” Buffy cried and chucked a cushion at her. “Now be quiet, I want to call him.” Cordy nodded and lay down on the bed.
Buffy dialled the number carefully so she got it right, on the second ring a woman picked up, presumably Alex’s mom. “Hello?” She answered cheerily.
Buffy took a deep breath and swallowed hard. “Uh…hi, is Alex there please?”
“Are you Buffy by any chance?” His mom asked warily.
“Yes, did Alex tell you about me?”
“A little, I’ll just get him for you Buffy.”
“Thanks, Mrs Browning.” Buffy muttered as she ran a hand through her hair.
A few moments later Alex picked up. “Hey, Buffy.”
“Hi…” She whispered. “What did you say to your mom about me? She started asking me stuff.”
“I didn’t say much. She just wanted to know who you were, that’s all I swear.” He admitted truthfully.
“Okay, I believe you.” Buffy smiled, she could just imagine his face, he’d be looking all innocent, sad eyes, the usual thing. All very cute. “Listen. Can we meet up later, I need to talk to you.”
“Sure, where do you want to meet?” He asked quickly.
“Is it okay if I come over to your place?” She wanted to meet somewhere where they could be alone, well more alone than at the hotel with Xander, Willow, and Cordy.
Alex was quiet a moment, then he replied. “Yeah, you can. My mom’s calling me for dinner, so I’ll see you later.”
“I look forward to it.” She whispered then hung up.
